SpywareStrike is a rogue anti-spyware programs using trojan horses to infect computers without the users knowledge or consent. The trojans are gaining access to PCs by exploiting a recently discovered security vulnerability in Windows Meta Files (WMF). Simply visiting a website or following an email link can infect your PC with the trojan. Microsoft has released a patch for this problem, which will prevent future infections but will not remove the existing infections. If you have Windows Automatic Updates you should already have the patch installed, otherwise you can manually download the patch from the Microsoft website.
SpywareStrike's trojan horse can display popups which prompt the user to download SpywareStrike with every access to the internet. The alert message is designed to have the appearance of an authentic Windows system alert message, but is really just an advertisement for SpywareStrike. It may also change your web browser's homepage, download other software without your knowledge and can seriously impact on your computer's operating speed.
How to Remove SpywareStrike
To remove SpywareStrike and/or its false alert messages, the associated trojan horses must also be removed. If the trojans are not completely removed from your system then SpywareStrike may be secretly downloaded and re-installed at some later time. To safely uninstall SpywareStrike and ensure all of its associated trojans are completely removed we recommend using STOPzilla. STOPzilla is a reputable anti-spyware program and has a 100% service guarantee:
As soon as you've removed all the infections detected by STOPzilla, reboot your system and re-scan. This will make sure the removal process is complete. If you have any further problems with SpywareStrike removal please contact us for assistance.
Note: STOPzilla was updated on 20th October 2010 to remove the latest variants of SpywareStrike.
