How To Remove SpySheriff Guide

Remove SpySheriff

What is SpySheriff?

SpySheriff is promoted on its homepages as an award-winning spyware removal utility for fighting all kinds of spyware and adware including keyloggers, trojan horses and password thieves. Spysheriff is actually an illicit program disguised as a spyware removal program, that uses similar tactics to the spyware programs it's supposed to remove.

SpySheriff can appear on users' systems without their knowledge or consent. The user does not purposely download and install SpySheriff, it just suddenly appears without warning or any indication of how it got there. SpySheriff uses an application dropper (known as Win32.TrojanDownloader) that force installs it onto the PCs of visitors to certain websites (not disclosed here to prevent inadvertent infections). It can also be bundled or hidden with third party software.

Once installed it uses deceptive practices to deceive the user into purchasing the commercial version of the product. It does this by displaying detected threats which are not actually present on the system. In the three-day-trial version of the software it indicates it has successfully removed displayed spyware but nothing is actually removed. As a further attempt to pursuade the user into purchasing the full version, it regularly displays a pop-up warning the user of spyware threats that aren't present.

SpySheriff Removal

Attempts to remove Spysheriff in add/remove programs variously does nothing or may cause a crash. It can also evade removal by reinstalling itself using a hidden installer program.

If you're unable to remove SpySheriff using the Windows add/remove programs feature, it's advisable to use a reputable anti-spyware program to effectively uninstall it. Excellent anti-spyware utilities are available, and users are encouraged to read about the issues before selecting one or more of them.

It's also very important to get rid of the application dropper (aka Downloader Trojan) that may have stealth installed SpySheriff in first place. Scan for this using a reputable anti-spyware program.

Our recommended anti-spyware program to use is STOPzilla. It safely removes SpySheriff and its associated application dropper or downloader Trojan. It is a proven and reputable program, and has a 100% guarantee:
